SURGERY
The
cross-site surgical management group provides acute and rehabilitation services
for adults undergoing either emergency or elective surgery.
The CMG has 289 beds across the two sites. As
well as inpatient facilities there are many specialist services such as The
Audiology Centre, Fracture Clinic and the Maxillofacial Unit. Both
of the inpatient and outpatient facilities are run by a large group of dedicated
clinical and non-clinical staff that work with each other to provide the best
possible care for our patients. Wards

Technical
Staff
The
unit has many specialist technical staff including dental, vascular and plaster
technicians. Both sites have very busy surgical appliances services.
Within the hearing centre there are five audiologists. Nursing
Staff The
largest workforce in the CMG is the nursing staff, with a mixture of qualified
staff and health care assistants of all grades.
The staff are highly skilled in the treatment of surgical conditions and
many of the wards care for high dependency patients soon after discharge from
the intensive care unit. There
are several specialist nurses such as urology nurse practitioners and an
orthopaedic liaison nurse. The wards also have access to the specialist cancer support
team of Breast Care and Stoma Care nurses. All
of the wards facilitate both pre registration and post registration students and
are dedicated to providing the best learning environment possible. The
maxillofacial unit is a busy outpatient service run by dental nurses and
specialist technicians.
Medical
Staff
The
hospital is affiliated with University College Medical School and the Surgeons
are dedicated to the education of medical students and junior doctors. Administration
and Clerical Staff
There
are many opportunities within the Surgical CMG for administration and clerical
staff of all grades. They provide
the vital foundation for much of the work that the CMG undertakes. There are
many medical secretaries, receptionists and admissions staff who work to ensure
that patients move smoothly through both outpatients and the admissions process. Service
Developments
In
September of 2001 the Audiology Centre is due to move into newly renovated
facilities on the Chase Farm Site. Presently
ongoing within the CMG is a large project on booked admissions.
The aim of the project is to enable patients to negotiate dates for
surgery and other appointments. Our
Philosophy
The
philosophy of the unit is to provide the best possible service for the patients
within our care. We
are dedicated to the education and development of our staff through skills
experience and formal education. Our
aim is to integrate the service and management teams so that everyone is working
towards the same goal and delivering the corporate objectives. |
